Functionality of architectural film

There are many types of architectural films on the market, each with its own distinct benefits. When selecting a film, what aspects should you consider and compare? In this section, we will answer that question by reviewing key points for consideration.

Examples of locations where window film is installed
Playhouses, movie theaters, department stores, markets, kindergartens, nurseries, schools, bathrooms, shower rooms, offices, hospitals, clinics, hotels, inns, joint facilities

A variety of architectural films with different features are available, but the most popular types by far are anti-shatter film and heat control film. UNIGLOBE Film R&C's lineup also includes these types. In this section, we will introduce the features of these films.

1.Features of anti-shatter film [Interior installation: SCL-90RC / Exterior installation: CLM-2HC]

What is anti-shatter film?

Anti-shatter film is an exceptionally clear and strong polyester film uniformly coated with a highly transparent adhesive. For this reason, installing the film does not reduce the transparency of glass. Furthermore, by blocking at least 99% of UV rays, this film helps prevent UV-related fading of interior furnishings. This type of film was developed to stop shards of glass from scattering in the event of a disaster like an earthquake or typhoon, prevent secondary disasters resulting from broken glass, and minimize the harm caused by a person or object breaking the glass on impact. The most standard type uses a polyester film base with a thickness of 50μ. There are two types: "interior window film" for installation inside, and "exterior window film" for installation outside. Anti-shatter film at one point accounted for about 80% of demand for architectural film, an overwhelming majority. UNIGLOBE R&C offers two kinds of anti-shatter film, SCL-90RC and CLM-2HC. Both have become flagship products.

2.Features of heat control film [Reflective type: WIN-70 / Absorptive type: SIR-80RC]

What is heat control film?

This type of film blocks infrared rays. There are two types that use different methods for blocking infrared rays: reflective and absorptive. Of these, the reflective type is better at blocking infrared rays and less susceptible to thermal cracking of the glass. In recent years, heat control film has attracted attention as a method for saving power, with a surge in demand expanding its market share from 10% to 50%. UNIGLOBE R&C offers WIN-70, a reflective type with high heat-shielding performance, and SIR-80RC, a standard absorptive type.
