About the property expression of compounds in our company

In the category of compounds for automobile painting, the terms water-based and oil-based have been used in Japan as general expressions for classifying their properties. However, the original meanings of water-based and oil-based are those that use only water as the solvent and those that use oil-based components such as organic solvents. When it comes to compounds, they tend to be misinterpreted that water-based products can mix with water and oil-based products cannot mix with water.
Basically, although the blending ratio is different, both water and oil are used in compounds, so we think that the expression "water-based, oil-based" itself is not appropriate.

The expression "water-soluble (dispersion)"

We sometimes use the expression water-soluble as a word similar to water-based. However, this is also not exactly accurate. Originally, it means that other components are dissolved in water and mixed at the molecular level. When it comes to a product as compound, the abrasive particles themselves are not dissolved, but only dispersed, even if the water and oil and fat components are mixed by emulsification.
Therefore, we will use the expression "water-soluble (dispersion)" to describe the properties of the compound.
